"All about Mother, is a film from one of our favourite directors Pedro Almodovar, who is known for exploring humanity, intense relationships and social politics. These ideas are important to us at this current moment, because they remind us of the theatricality and falabilities of human existence beyond the impositions of Covid 19" - The Young Electrics film programmers group

A Greek saying states that only women who have washed their eyes with tears can see clearly. This saying does not hold true for Manuela (Cecilia Roth). The night a car ran over her son Esteban, Manuela cried until her eyes ran completely dry. Far from seeing clearly, the present and the future become mixed up in darkness. This tragedy drives her to return to Barcelona 18 years after fleeing to Madrid as a pregnant and unmarried young woman. While she's looking for the father of her child, she reunites with an old friend, takes in a pregnant nun, and becomes a personal assistant to the unwitting catalyst of the tragedy that pulled her back to Barcelona in the first place.
Almodóvar's well-known reverence of women is beautifully realized here, and the sheer warmth of this film makes it a stunning success. The performances are unforgettable. Cecilia Roth is dazzling and real, and heartbreaking. The genius of Almodovar is how he can break our hearts yet still make us laugh and give us hope.

A message from our cinema director, Rebecca Marshall:
As we have been unable to operate at our previous full capacity since reopening, and with safety measures unlikely to be able to relax anytime this year, we are facing mounting building rental costs, film licensing costs and other overheads that were previously viable when we were open at full capacity.

Unless all our current season of films sell out, the cinema will be unable to continue into 2021 and will likely close.

With this in mind I make this plea to all to help sustain this much-loved community asset:

How you can help:

Thank you.
