Hastings Rocks Film Festival is an exciting 3-day event of award-winning indie films made by local and international directors. The programme will include short and feature-length films & documentaries of electric styles and genres (art film, comedy, drama, horror, and more).

Hastings Rocks Film Festival is an exciting new addition to Rocks Film Festivals which exhibit films in Brighton, London and Los Angeles made by talented independent filmmakers of all walks of life. In keeping with Hastings’ rich culture and heritage, the festival will have a special emphasis on films that explore esoteric and mystical themes, as well as movies shot in Hastings. Screenings will take place jointly at the Electric Palace and St Mary in the Castle.

Documentaries Rock Series

10.30am – 11.15am: Short Docs

Voice

7 dance artists in the UK and Mexico explore questions about their inner experiences during the pandemic. Created in the month of March 2021, this film is about finding voice and creativity within the silent and isolating void of lockdown.

Riot in the Meadow

A short documentary about the life and work of artist Vicky Hawkins.

Fluffypunk

The insecurities, instabilities, and conflicts that plague the life of performance poet Jon Seagrave. Trying to balance the responsibilities of parenthood, artistic integrity, and personal happiness is anything but fluffy!

11.30am – 1.30pm LGBTQIA+ Documentary Series

Queer Rural Connections

A short documentary exploring queer rural experiences and what it means to belong. It follows four individual stories in East Anglia and deals with themes such as the loss of queer spaces, how life has changed in the last thirty years and what queer community means.

Frankie, a recently "out" transgender, autistic woman reflects on her past mental health struggles as a teenager, whilst fighting medical gatekeeping as she hopes to start her transition. The Boy and the Bear by Rose Collis

A funny, provocative and moving account of the rich personal and political journey taken by Rose Collis and her then closest gay male friend, who both came out in 1978.The personal stories unwind against a social and political backdrop and context of early Gay Pride marches, police harassment, anti-fascist/anti-racist activism, 'agit-prop' gay and feminist theatre, the London lesbian and gay scene and media of the late 70s and early 80s, and the first decade of the AIDS crisis, viewed through a lesbian woman's lens.
