DJ Wendy May's Summer music Meltdown
90 mins / 2004 / Germany, UK
Over the summer enjoy Summer Music Meltdown 2025, with classic music films ranging from soul, punk, reggae, rock, jazz and Americana - this year including some choices from legendary DJ Wendy May.
The legendary Gram Parsons, as the founder of the Flying Burrito Brothers, a member of the Byrds, an important influence on the Rolling Stones and the man who catapulted Emmylou Harris to fame, Gram Parsons made music history in only a few years. Friends, contemporaries and devotees of Gram Parsons talk about the importance of his work. Interviewees include Gram's wife Gretchen, his sister and his daughter, Keith Richards, and Emmylou Harris.
DJ Wendy May, about her choice of Gram Parsons: Fallen Angel:
"At the end of 1981, working in Virgin Records, I was hanging out with Elvis Costello who had just released his Country LP Almost Blue. It featured cover versions of two Gram Parsons songs "I'm your Toy" & "How much I lied". I'd previously loved The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers and Emmylou Harris, and the West Coast music from the late '60s/early '70s, but it was out of step with what was happening in the '80s. But Elvis Costello made it 'cool' to love this 'Cosmic Country' music once again."
Cool it is indeed!
