Join Strange Frames for another foray into the weird and wonderful with Jacques Demy's delightful fantasy fairytale.

When a fairytale queen suddenly dies, the king decides to marry the only person whose beauty rivals hers… their daughter. Yuck! Luckily a kind fairy comes to the rescue and hatches a strange and quite disgusting plan to disguise the young princess. Starring the wondeful Catherine Deneuve and the iconic Delphine Seyrig (perhaps best known as for her role as Jeanne Dielman).

A surreal musical comedy based on the 1695 fairy tale by Charles Perrault, the film showcases Jacques Demy’s unbridled creativity and his unrivalled mastery of colour.

The screening will be preceded by a short introduction exploring the folklore and fairytales that inspired the film.
