Led by local artist and storyteller Lily Gutierrez.

In this workshop we’ll create individual zines based on prompts and stories that investigate our perceived realities. To complement the Lazy Girls Film Club screening of Sarah Polley’s remarkable documentary Stories We Tell, Lily Gutierrez of Story Time will be guiding you in zine-making play by asking, 'How do we remember?'.

Do we rose tint memories or trust photos over fact. Are their people or places that we’ve over-romanticised? Have thoughts of revenge erased moments of tenderness? What was real and how do we know?

The way we listen to the small details of life can be its own form of worship. The information that makes up our realities is so individual, as the alternate versions of events told by siblings or friends confirms. The ways we (consciously or unconsciously) play with memory can lead to us betraying ourselves or repeating patterns or (hopefully) learning.

Most of us have been love sick over fantasised realities, riddled with guilt over things we thought we’d done (but, as it turns out, didn’t) and sucker-punched by hidden memories that bubble up and break our hearts. Now we get to have fun investigating it all via collage, drawing, writing and creating our own mini zines.

Everything you need will be provided on the day, but you are welcome to bring any photos, letters, or zine-making materials that inspire you.

The price will cover materials, a hot drink, and a sweet treat.

(Book separately for Stories We Tell, screening at 7.30pm Sat 2 August.)
