Celebrating International Women's Month with the first Disney movie to be directed by a woman. Brenda Chapman won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her film Brave where Princess Merida is a based on her own little girl, Emma - a free spirited girl just like her mum!

When she was fifteen years old, Brenda called up Walt Disney Studios and said "I'm really good at drawing, will you give me a job?" They told her to get back in touch when she was older and had some training and that is exactly what she did. She studied character animation and a few years later found herself working on animated films for Disney in LA. She soon discovered that she was one of the very few women animators there at the time and that's when she realised why the princesses in their films were so helpless - they were call created by men. She promised herself she would create a new type of princess: strong, independent and brave.
