A biographical movie based on jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker (Forest Whitaker). Addicted to drugs from a young age, Parker suffers the corresponding highs and lows but his loving wife Chan (Diane Venora) supports him.

Whitaker's performance as Parker won him the Best Actor award at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival and Eastwood was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Director.
