Bonjour les amis!

Interested in French cinema? Enjoy speaking French?

The Electric Palace and the French Space will come together in February and May once again to offer two special evenings devoted to French cinema and to the French language. We call this Club Cinoche! The evening will include a full film screening alongside interactive conversation class with other Francophiles.

What better way to practise your French than to relax, socialise and link it to something of cultural interest?

Come and view a fabulous French film in a beautiful and cosy independent cinema and enjoy informal opportunities throughout the evening to discuss the movie en français!

The evening starts at 7pm and we provide prompts, phrases and vocabulary to get you speaking about the film in pairs and small groups. The bar will be open for a glass of wine or beer to compliment the experience.

With French cinéma there's plenty to talk about. Come and unleash your inner French film-critic!

About the film, Marius:

'Marius' takes place in Marseilles' Old Port, at the La Marine Bar, owned by César and his son Marius. Marius' biggest dream is to embark on one of the boats passing by his dad's bar and to set off to a faraway land. Fanny has secretly been in love with Marius since her childhood; Marius, never admitting it until now, has always loved Fanny.

Based on Marcel Pagnol's play, this warm and light comedy follows the titular 18 year-old (Raphaël Personnaz), who is torn between his love of Fanny (Victoire Bélézy) and also his dreams of escaping his small town and seeing the world.

One day, a sailor drops by La Marine and offers Marius a job on an exploratory ship. As César and Honorine, Fanny's mother, are getting ready for the wedding, Marius changes his mind, drawn back to the call of the sea. Sacrificing her love, Fanny convinces Marius to embark on his journey, leaving her behind. Devastated but holding back her tears, she hides Marius' decision to his father...

See Fanny, the sequel to Marius, on 16 May - booking link to follow soon.
