Let's Talk Film: ‘Everything You Wanted to Know about…Stanley Kubrick' is an opportunity to discuss and learn about the classic auteur, Stanley Kubrick. You will hear how Kubrick, the ultimate control freak director, researched and sweated over his films from our resident cinephile Ben Newell - Hastings' answer to Mark Kermode!

  • Hear about how Ben found Kubrick's house.
  • Hear about a tale Ken Adam (production designer) told Ben about Kubrick.
  • Discover famous locations where Kubrick filmed many of his masterpieces in England.

The evening will include include quizzes, group activities and discussion giving participants the opportunity to learn, talk about and share their love of film in our cosy cinema and bar.

After the 2 hour session, which includes an interval for informal chat and drinks, all participants will be invited to an informal social session with our bar staying open until 10pm.

About Ben Newell

Ben Newell, pictured, smiling with cap onBen Newell (pictured), is an Art Historian and Teacher and has been a passionate cinephile since a child when his mother first introduced him to the films of Hitchcock, Kubrick and the kitchen sink dramas of '60s British Cinema. Ben has worked as a film festival supervisor and film programmer in a number of cinemas and festivals around the UK including the Edinburgh Film Festival, Glasgow School of Art and Lonsdale Cinema in Carlisle.

A resident of Hastings now for two years he relocated to the South coast to become a local primary school teacher where he shares his passion for film and culture with his pupils. He has been involved in the Electric Palace now for over a year as one of the screening supervisors and shares his thirst for the filmic form. 'Let's Talk Film: Everything You Wanted to Know about...but were afraid to ask' is a new social film night that Ben will host every month at The Electric Palace to create a regular space for film fans to meet up in Hastings and discuss all things film!
