Linklater uses an innovative and visually stunning technique of rotoscoping, where animators trace over live action frame by frame to create a visual, mind-blowing journey into Dick's conception of a drug-addled and politically unstable world. Keanu Reeves plays an undercover cop in a not-too-distant future, who becomes involved with a dangerous new drug and begins to lose his own identity as a result.
