Summer Italian film series

See Il Postino, Bicycle Thieves and Cinema Paradiso this July and August in our trio of sumptuous, sun-drenched classics, curated by Geraldine Doyle.

This Summer we bring you three gorgeous and well-loved Italian films, curated by Geraldine Doyle, a Hastings resident and Electric Palace supporter.

When Geraldine came along to the first of our new Sunday morning screenings, we had a lovely chat and she revealed that her special love is Italian cinema.

After always dreaming of living in Italy and speaking Italian, Geraldine then lived in Rome between 2011 and 2019. "It was everything I could have imagined.... and much, much more," says Geraldine, who has picked her top Italian films for Hastings to enjoy this Summer:

"My first film choice 'Il Postino' is an affectionate nod to the real-life Roman postman I shared a flat with when I first moved to Rome. He introduced me to Italian films. These films deepened my understanding and love for Italy and, to this day, never fail to transport me back to La Dolce Vita."

"The second film is 'Bicycle Thieves'. Although this touching story is set in post-war Rome, the streets and piazzas were the very same ones that I walked on a daily basis. Cinema Paradiso completes the trio because it captures the magic of cinema and it is set in my second most favourite place - Sicily," says Geraldine.

We look forward to you joining us for the screenings - all Sunday morning screenings include a free hot drink and biscuits with your ticket!
