This selection of silent films from the Imperial War Museum’s First World War collection shows women in various types of war work, the women’s services and in their roles of wives and mothers. These films provide a unique historical record and fascinating insight into the position of British women in wartime in the years leading up to the legislation which gave (some) women the vote.

Introduced by Fiona Kelly, Film Curator at the London Imperial War Museum, researching the film collection as well as licensing footage for television productions.
