Introduction from Project Art Works
101 Mins/ 2017 / USA

Grand Jury winner at Sundance 2017, this real-life romantic comedy follows Dina Buno and Scott Levin, both on the autistic spectrum, as they prepare for their upcoming wedding. Living in a suburb of Philadelphia, they negotiate the usual bumps in a nascent romance — moving in together, occasional black moods and attendant misunderstandings.

Throughout, Sickles and Santini find beauty, tenderness and wry humour in the banal — the work of Miranda July springs to mind — and have created an uplifting celebration of human connection — not just in a romantic sense, but in terms of the friends and family who don’t just tolerate but love us at our most frustrating and flawed.

Before Dina we'll be screening 'The Mask' with a speaker from Project Art Works. The Mask is an award-winning short film about autism and identity featuring local writer and director, Sharif Persaud. As he journeys along a coastal footpath, Sharif describes what it means to have autism while all the time wearing his favourite celebrity mask - comedian, Al Murray. He finally arrives at his destination where he comes face to face with his alter-ego.
