Lazy Girls Film Club presents...
The Lady Eve
There’s nothing like a classic movie at Christmas! Lazy Girls Film Club is celebrating the festive season with one of the greatest screwball comedies of all time, The Lady Eve.
Director: Preston Sturges
Cast includes: Barbara Stanwyck, Henry Fonda, Charles Coburn
Presented by Lazy Girls Film Club
94 Mins / 1941 / USA
The incomparable Barbara Stanwyck stars as a sharp-witted con artist with her sights set on the bumbling heir to a brewery fortune (Henry Fonda). In order to win him over, she poses as a glamorous aristocrat, ‘the Lady Eve Sidwich’, and all manner of chaos ensues.
Written and directed by Preston Sturges, this funny, sexy movie is an absolute blast, featuring a dazzling performance from one of cinema’s most magnetic leading ladies. Best seen on the big screen, with an audience, and preferably a mince pie or a glass of wine.
With costumes designed by the legendary Edith Head, The Lady Eve is the epitome of 1940s style and elegance. Accordingly, the dress code for this screening is Golden Age Glamour. We encourage you to don your finest vintage pieces and prepare for an afternoon of classic Hollywood magic!
Lazy Girls Film Club Programmer Eleanor says…
The Lady is Eve is easily one of the best films of the 1940s. It’s wonderful to see a romance from this era that feels fresh and surprising for modern audiences. Along with a hefty dose of sparkling wit, it also features brilliant physical comedy, and unexpected eroticism. This is the final Lazy Girls Film Club screening scheduled to take place at the Electric Palace, and I can’t imagine a better film to go out on - don’t miss it!
