This moving documentary by Sepideh Farsi was the subject of a powerful Guardian feature, spotlighting the story of Fatma Hassouna, a 24-year-old Palestinian photojournalist in Gaza whose talent, resilience and warmth shine throughout the film. For more than 200 days Sepideh and Fatma maintain digital exchanges documenting the bombardment and destruction of Gaza. Through Fatma's eyes we see the demolition of her home, constant displacement and the loss of family members. Farsi explains that Fatma became “my eyes in Gaza … fiery and full of life. I filmed her laughs, her tears, her hopes and her depression”.

The piece calls her “solar” — and it's not hard to see why. Fatma was killed the day after the film was invited to Cannes. The film gives a vivid, intimate and essential insight into the reality of life in Gaza.

In partnership with Hastings and District Palestine Solidarity Campaign (HDPSC):

Chair of HDPSC, Katy Colley, will introduce the film and host a discussion afterwards. HDPSC will have an information stall at the screening, also selling books on Palestine and keffiyehs, and will be collecting donations for the community in Al-Mawasi, southern Gaza who the group has strong links with. Please note, this is for the Friday 17 October screening only.

In the past 18 months, HDPSC has been able to send funds to help the community to build a bakery and to buy solar panels to operate a well, as well as money to buy food, now incredibly scarce and sold at hugely inflated prices; and has Zoom calls with people from the community when this is possible for them.
