Simon (Glory Gore), a dazzling star of Montreal's drag scene, finds his world turned upside down when he meets Oliver (Dragona), the captivating new recruit at his club. Their passionate romance quickly morphs into a dangerous dynamic, jeopardising Simon's shining career.
Complicating matters, Simon's estranged mother, a renowned opera diva, returns, prompting him to confront his idealised vision of her. As he navigates the heartache of these two relationships, Simon realises that he deserves better.
Théodore Pellerin delivers a career-defining performance in the groundbreaking role of Simon, written especially for him by Sophie Dupuis. Solo’s impact is amplified by Félix Mariteau’s (SAUVAGE, 120 BPM) sensational performance as Olivier. Together they create a truly, unforgettable on-screen dynamic.
Hasting drag artist, Kally (right) will bring their unique charisma and insane acrobatic skills for a short 10 minute pre-film performance.
Too Much: Melodrama on Film is a UK-wide celebration of exaggerated staging, score and performance to create the ultimate spectacle.
Melodrama tells intimate and familial stories, a rare cinematic form that concerns itself with women's inner lives repeatedly dismissed by critics that found the outpouring of emotion "too much" and yet these films and the legacy of 'women's pictures' carry searing social commentary beneath a glossy veneer. Imperfectly feminist yet endlessly relatable, come to the cinema to reconsider what, if anything, is "too much".
