Sofia Coppola's hotly anticipated Priscilla is part of our Coppolas mini season, and presents the unseen story of Elvis and Priscilla Presley's long courtship and turbulent marriage. Priscilla meets The King of Rock 'n' Roll at just 14, and is whisked away into an opulent yet secluded new world.
Starring Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn) and Cailee Spaeny (in a Venice Best Actress-winning performance), this is a dreamy and sensitive study of the woman at the centre of a complex romance defined by an unshakeable imbalance of power.
There are few directors as gifted as Sofia Coppola when it comes to capturing that very specific view of a world glimpsed through the bars of a gilded cage. First with the five-star hotel ennui of Lost in Translation (2003), then the ribbon-bedecked prison of privilege in Marie Antoinette (2006), and now the dark side of a fairytale in Priscilla. Coppola evokes the aching loneliness and isolation experienced by women who simultaneously have everything and nothing.
