Calling all film fanatics! Want to know more about your favourite director and share your enthusiasm with other fans? Looking for new directors to examine from the chronicles of film history? Tired of scrolling through your phone to find nibbles of trivia and disappearing down the preferable rabbit hole? Keen to meet like minded cinema enthusiasts to discuss, debate and share trivia in a fun, relaxed and open environment? Then we have the evening for you.

‘Everything You Wanted to Know about…Alfred Hitchcock’ is an opportunity to spend an evening with resident cinephile Ben Newell as he takes you through an enjoyable journey, each month focusing on a particular director.

This evening session will include include quizzes, group activities and discussion, giving participants the opportunity to learn, talk about and share their love of film in our cosy cinema and bar. After the session all participants will be invited to an informal 'stay and chat' social, with our bar staying open until 10.30pm.

So whether you’re a budding cineaste or a seasoned filmgoer then this an inviting opportunity to share your love for cinema through informal discussion in an open space and take a closer look at the life and work of the auteurs of the big screen - the individuals behind the camera who have called the shots and crafted cinema experiences that have enthralled generations of moviegoers.

About Ben Newell

Ben Newell (pictured), is an Art Historian and Teacher and has been a passionate cinephile since a child when his mother first introduced him to the films of Hitchcock, Kubrick and the kitchen sink dramas of '60s British Cinema. Ben has worked as a film festival supervisor and film programmer in a number of cinemas and festivals around the UK including the Edinburgh Film Festival, Glasgow School of Art and Lonsdale Cinema in Carlisle.

A resident of Hastings now for two years he relocated to the South coast to become a local primary school teacher where he shares his passion for film and culture with his pupils. He has been involved in the Electric Palace now for over a year as one of the screening supervisors and shares his thirst for the filmic form. 'Everything You Wanted to Know about...but were afraid to ask' is a new social film night that Ben will host every month at The Electric Palace to create a regular space for film fans to meet up in Hastings and discuss all things film!
