Entertaining Nature

https://jamesroseveare.com/art-works-overview/entertaining-nature-2/

Installation 3m x 1m

Mixed media :  soil, rock, moss, sand, perspex block, toy monkey, mirror ball, variable projected light source, sound (running water). This installation was made in response to a site within a dark, damp gallery basement with bare rock walls (Claremont).

It has been argued that a sense of wilderness exists in the very construction of language.  Culture arising from its relationship with nature.  Notions of the untamed dark forests giving us a rich history of myth and folklore.  The human species regards itself as the central figure in the universe but what of other possibilities, other perceptions?

OR possibly the film below . . . but I can’t remember!!

a place to be investigates the body; it’s presence and the importance of place

Twin screen video projections. Approx. 2m x 1.5m each single screen

Jim Roseveare/Yumino Seki collaboration

Do you remember a moment when your love for the moving image was sparked?

Growing up as a kid watching Westerns... seeing the immensity of the landscape.

What does filmmaking offer you as an artist?

Meditative space to think about the conundrum of time.

Is there something you try to subvert, avoid or rebel against in your work?

TIME.

How do you plan your work – with a script, storyboards or another method?

Sketches, conceptual framework, and happenstance and serendipity.

Do you need to collaborate to make your work?

Not always.

Has living in Hastings influenced your work?

YES ... .     the expanse of living, forever changing, moving water and its relationship to us and its connectivity to the world. A storm is an invigorating thing yet at the same time humbling.

Do live audiences in a cinema matter to you?

YES -  feedback.

What continues to inspire you as a filmmaker or artist?

TIME + curiosity about the material stuff of life.
