I'm over my head at the moment, with copyediting one complicated book, and trying to start another. And I tend to go numb when confronted with lists of perfectly reasonable queries. It feels like trying to get a vaccine passport. But, of course, I'm happy to offer support to Electric Palace, as a great resource for the town.(Even when we are forbidden to actually go there.)
Can you tell us about a film you have shown at the Electric Palace or at our film festival?
It's hard to remember which films were shown at Electric Palace (always a generous host). Generally they were 'works in progress'. I'm sure, given Rebecca's significant involvement (and the subject), Marine Court Rendezvous must have been there in some form. The film was made for a multi-screen venue, a wraparound effect. But I've been along, often, in support of Andrew Kötting pieces, some of which involved my collaboration. And a few miles survived on swan pedalo or foot. I also relished live performances - as with Pete Brown - undertaken for one of Nicholas Johnson's Black Hut festivals.
Has living in Hastings influenced your work?
Hastings has been a part of my life, from my days as a bookdealer in the Seventies & Eighties (last century), to weeks spent, after 2000, in St Leonards. The more general questions about inspiration and collaboration are better covered in my book,70x70 (Unlicensed Preaching: A Life Unpacked in 70 films).
I could also offer a 'found' poem from a blackboard at the Electric Palace. (It appeared in the book Seeschlange.)
