Special discussion with Peter Cattrell, former Printer for Fay Godwin and Geraldine Alexander, Godwin's archivist and biographer
27mins PLus special Discussion / 2017 / UK

This event is presented by Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve to stimulate interest in the work of photographer Fay Godwin (1931 – 2005), who photographed the changing coast of Rye Bay.

Cameras & Chemistry is a film about Fay Godwin’s technical explorations and methods. Their impact on her work - from Agfa Rapid papers to the Zone System - wil be discussed and analyzed.

The film reveals the intensity of Fay's preoccupation with the technical means to realise her vision. For this reason it is of interest to those wishing a deeper insight into her thinking and to those fascinated by the craft of the photographic process.

After the film you are invited to join in a discussion with Peter Cattrell, photographer, formerly printer for Fay Godwin and Geraldine Alexander, Godwin’s archivist & biographer.

Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve are presenting this special evening as a way of raising awareness of their new Discovery Centre currently under development in co-operation with Sussex Wildlife Trust. This centre will present not only the exceptional history and spectacular wildlife of  the area, but also the work of artists who have been inspired by it.
