Hastings is a hotbed of film making activity with many well-known filmmakers based here and producing a constant stream of new and innovative work.

This is an opportunity from Coastal Currents to see a selection of their latest short films, introduced by the directors.

About the films:

  • Kate Adams (Project Art Works) - "Meet me at the Station" - Super 8 film exploring the journey of a group of people with profound intellectual impairment and complex needs who do indeed meet at the non-mainline station.
  • Nichola Bruce - "I'm on the train" - more train fuelled existential journeys by commuters.
  • Mark French "Voo Doo Choo Choo" - Straight 8 train journey on the miniature railways of Hastings with a soundtrack by Fritz Catlin.
  • Jane Green "Cherry Cake" - Love and lust knows no age limit in this eye popping exploration of sexual need later in life.
  • Eden & Andrew Kotting/Glenn Whiting "Its all in the mind", "All at see" - Insightful, witty and deceptively naive animations by father/daughter Kotting team with animator Whiting.
  • David Jackson "Winterlong" - David introduces an excerpt from his new feature set in Hastings and featuring Francis Magee in this father/son growing up drama.
  • Sharif Persaud/Tim Corrigan "The Mask" Sharif needs a mask of Al Murray to present his face to the world, then he meets the real Al Murray.
  • Judy Parkinson "Drawing Life" a moving portrait of people with dementia using drawing to express their inner thoughts.
  • Rebecca E Marshall "You Are Here" - filmed in The Library of Water in Iceland, light twists, stretches and wraps around a woman's body as she dances through time.
  • Jaroslav Scholz "Hastings on fire" - Evocation of Hastings Bonfire which reaches right inside the spirit of the night.
  • Toby Tatum "Guide to Grottos and Caves" - Toby takes us into the mystical hidden world of Hastings caves and sacred places.
  • Richard Heslop offers a new work.
