Heavenly Pursuits
15 / Charles Gormley / 1986 / Heavenly Pursuits / UK
A charmingly quirky comic drama, Heavenly Pursuits takes a satirical look at the sometimes confusing world of education and religion against a backdrop of mid-eighties Glasgow. Tom Conti stars as Glaswegian schoolteacher Vic Mathews who teaches a special needs class at the Blessed Edith Semple School, he loves two things in life; his job and fellow teacher Ruth (Helen Mirren). The school authorities are trying to discover the two more miracles that would promote the late Edith Semple to sainthood. The non-believing Mathews wishes the school would just concentrate on teaching the children, but his life becomes confused when he is involved in possibly miraculous events himself!
