About the Electric Palace
The Electric Palace is an independent bijou cinema in the heart of Hastings Old Town.
This specially developed cinema aims to bring to Hastings a wide choice of films and film related events, with regular screenings of Contemporary, Classic and World Cinema. We also put on live comedy, music and theatre events.
We have a licenced bar and offer a tempting range of refreshments such as Green & Blacks Chocolates, organic wine, local beers including Hastings Brewery ales, miniature bottles of Prosecco, and alcoholic ginger beer.
We rely on a team of volunteers to staff the screenings and on your ongoing support to maintain a diverse and exciting programme.
The Electric Palace is open to everyone. You are welcome to book tickets in advance through this website or simply turn up before the screenings. Doors open 45 minutes before each performance.

All our fabulous volunteers!
We set up the Cinema in 2002 after feeling frustrated about the lack of film choice locally.
Our aim was to create a place to screen a wide range of films for the local community to share and enjoy.
Starting with an empty white room we initially set up with a pot of red paint, some basic equipment and rather uncomfortable chairs. Since then we have gradually improved the facilities and interior, with the addition of a licensed bar and a new Film Council funded projector (soon to be further updated), and of course our classic red seats. We also now have extra cushions!
We are a ‘Not for Profit ‘ organisation and we rely on ticket sales and the dedicated work of our fabulous volunteer team to run the cinema. We do not receive any funding for running costs of the cinema - so it's now more important than ever that you keep coming along, buying tickets and treating yourself to a glass of wine or two.
We do however apply for funding to run projects and events at the cinema and locations outside of the cinema, including our film festival Shot by the Sea, and our Summer Music Season. In recent years we have received funding from:
- National Lottery - Awards For All
- Baird Film and TV Project
- Screen South
- Arts Council England
- Interreg IIIa
- East Sussex County Council
- Film Council
- The Foreshore Trust
We put together the cinema programme quarterly and are always asked how we select films - we of course start with the films we would most like to see ourselves! We aim to show a diverse range of arthouse and World Cinema films and always welcome suggestions or recommendations. You can email ideas to email@example.com or let us know via Facebook or Twitter.
We have now developed a reputation for interesting and unique film programming and we will continue to bring varied and challenging works to big screen if you keep coming and watching them...
Tickets are available in advance online from this website, or on the door.
Doors and the bar open at 7.15pm, screenings start at 8pm.
Hire the Electric Palace for all kinds of events, including private film screenings, parties, meetings, gigs, festivals and rehearsals.
